After the murder of American insurance boss Brain Thompson on the street in Manhattan, the police have now taken a suspect into custody. He is said to have a similar weapon to the model used in the shooting of the manager.
The man was discovered by a police officer in a McDonald’s restaurant. The suspect is currently being questioned by detectives. A similar weapon to the one used in the assassination attempt is said to have been registered in his name, ABC News reported, citing police sources.
New images of the suspect have been released
The investigators had previously published images of the man from a surveillance camera in a hostel on the Upper West Side, where the man is said to have lived.
The head of multibillion-dollar insurer United Healthcare, Brian Thompson, was shot Wednesday morning outside a hotel and residential building near Times Square. The 50-year-old later died in hospital from his injuries.
Messages about shell casings
When searching for a motive, three words found on bullet casings at the crime scene may provide clues: “deny,” “defend” and “depose.”
This may be a reference to a saying used by insurance critics: “Delay, deny, defend.” What this means is that health insurers often delayed payments to patients, denied claims and then defended their actions, if necessary in court. There is also a book with this title that deals with the practice of insurers.
