Police have arrested three suspects in connection with devastating explosions in a residential building in The Hague that left six dead. Some cars were also seized.
The investigation is continuing and further arrests cannot be ruled out, the director said. The exact cause of the disaster is still unclear, but the Public Prosecution Service had already discussed indications of a criminal background.
Six fatalities
Two explosions destroyed a three-storey apartment building on Saturday morning. Only six people could be rescued from the rubble, including three members of a family, a father, mother and their 17-year-old daughter. In addition, four people were injured and taken to hospital.
Royal couple visits accident scene
On Monday, King Willem-Alexander and his wife Máxima visited the site of the disaster. The king said he was shocked by the extent of the destruction in the residential area. “My knees are shaking,” he told reporters at the end of the visit.
The royal couple also spoke to victims, relatives and neighbors at a nearby community centre. The King and Queen express their condolences to the victims and their families.
