Bathing holidaymakers have found two bodies on a beach on the Greek island of Lesbos. The two men are said to have died trying to cross the strait between Turkey’s west coast and Lesvos. A forensic investigation should clarify the cause of death.
The two men are migrants, Greek media reported Monday. The Coast Guard also confirmed the incident, which took place on Sunday.
In recent weeks, authorities have registered a wave of migrants attempting to cross from Turkey to Greece or via Greek waters directly to Italy. Eight people have been missing since a sailboat with more than 100 on board was wrecked last week.
