Just like Italian world champion coach Enzo Bearzot, Walter Schachner was appointed by FC Torino to the “Hall of Fame” of its legendary greats. A three-month special exhibition on the goalscorer from St. Michael is now on display in Piedmont.
What an honor! Walter Schachner was appointed by FC Torino on the occasion of the 118th birthday of the seven-time Italian champion and five-time cup winner, as the first foreigner to be appointed to the club’s “Hall of Fame”, which so far had 22 members. This includes club legends such as Valentino Mazzola, captain of the legendary team ‘Grande Torino’, which after four consecutive championship titles ended tragically in a plane crash on May 4, 1949. The event was so memorable that the Italian national team did not arrive by plane, but traveled by ship to the 1950 World Cup in Brazil.
