Like a Hollywood film: The rediscovered opera “The Holy Duck” by the Lower Austrian Hans Gál can be seen as a production of the opera studio in the black box of the Linz Music Theater. Great crowd favorites also occur in satire, which is about people and gods.
The composer Hans Gál, born in Lower Austria in 1890, had his breakthrough in 1923 with the premiere of his satirical fairy tale opera “The Holy Duck”. This work became a real hit on theater stages at the time. But because of his Jewish origins, Gál’s illustrious career came to an abrupt end after the National Socialists came to power and forced him to emigrate to England.
The Linz State Theater would like to commemorate this long-forgotten composer and is therefore bringing “The Sacred Duck” back to an Austrian stage – and once again it has the potential to truly inspire the audience (ages 13 and up)!
