Trial in Salzburg – prison sentences for three criminal tourists

According to the indictment, three Hungarians stole 40 bicycles across Austria. Damage: 115,000 euros. Prison sentences were handed down at Monday’s trial in Salzburg.

The three suspects (38 to 48 years old) are “classic criminal tourists”, emphasized the prosecutor on Monday during the trial in the regional court of Salzburg: the trio drove from Hungary to the Austrian crime scene – even with two cars to to facilitate transportation. They specifically targeted expensive mountain bikes and e-bikes: the indictment speaks of dozens of burglaries between July 8, 2021 and October 26, 2021. They struck in various constellations across Austria: from Zell am See to Graz, St. Pölten to Spielberg and Easter. About 40 bicycles were looted. Damage: 115,000 euros. DNA matches led to the trio.

Imprisonment between three and a half and two years

During the trial, only one of the three massively convicted Hungarians confessed. In the end, all three sentences were between three and a half and two years in prison — not final.
