According to Ukrainian sources, a shopping center in the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk was hit by a Russian missile. More than a thousand people were in the building at the time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Telegram Monday. “It is impossible even to imagine the number of victims,” he wrote. At least two people have been killed and 20 injured so far, according to the president’s office.
In a video Zelenskyj distributed, the burning building can be seen with thick clouds of dark smoke (see above). According to the civil defence, 115 firefighters with 20 fire trucks are deployed. In addition, a fire truck was requested from the railway.
“Further war crimes”
“The rocket attack on the shopping center with people in Kremenchuk is another war crime committed by the Russians,” wrote Poltava Oblast Governor Dmytro Lunin. The number of victims was initially unknown. In the immediate vicinity of the shopping center is a road construction machine factory.
Ukraine has been fighting a Russian invasion for more than four months. The United Nations has so far registered more than 4,700 civilian casualties, but like the government in Kiev, they believe the number of casualties is much higher.
