Several people, including a ten-year-old, were injured at a dangerous intersection in Teesdorf in the Baden district of Lower Austria. Neighbors have been calling for years to be defused, but nothing happens. Now that should change.
“What else needs to be done?” ask the residents of Teesdorf in the Baden district. And this question is probably more than justified. Because the intersection in the middle of the community center, where two national highways meet, causes dangerous situations almost every day.
Two injured
Two recent examples: A few weeks ago a bus hit a woman and seriously injured her. Just a few days ago, a ten-year-old boy was thrown to the ground by a car in the middle of the protective path. For many residents of Teesdorf it is clear: “The young student is in the hospital because of a failure by the authorities!” A mother reports in disbelief: “There has been a traffic light here for years. There are always conversations, but nothing happens. No one here dares to let their children go alone.”
Also a problem for cars
The situation on site is not only extremely dangerous for pedestrians. Motorized road users also criticize the confusing intersection, which offers only a very poor view of the priority road. “Fender damage is common,” says a local resident.
Signature list is being processed
The Teesdorfers are now on their feet. A signature list is being prepared. The aim is to increase the pressure on decision makers. But they do not want to accept the accusation of passivity. The community ensures that staff members act as student guides every morning to ensure the safety of the children. However, the ball is in the state’s court to implement the long-awaited traffic light solution. At least that’s where a small glimmer of hope comes from.
Extensive testing required
Traffic counts are currently underway and a traffic hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. However, before concrete measures can be taken and implemented, a comprehensive, legally required evaluation must be carried out. We can only hope that nothing worse happens at the intersection during this time…
