Two military officers were killed in the Russian capital when an e-scooter was deliberately blown up – now a video documenting the explosion is circulating online.
On Tuesday morning, a huge bang shook the metropolis. A short time later, anonymous Telegram channels reported: two people were killed in an explosion on Ryazan Prospekt in the Russian capital. Excited eyewitnesses described loud thunder. They then saw two men lying on the ground who had just walked out of the stairs.
The Russian Investigative Committee later clarified: the dead were the commander of Russian forces to counter attacks with radioactive, biological and chemical weapons, Igor Kirillov, and his adjutants.
According to the investigation, the explosive was attached to an e-scooter parked next to the entrance of the residential building. According to the Telegram channel Mash, the scooter exploded around 6 a.m. when Kirillov was about to be picked up in a company car.
The explosion may have been controlled remotely – most likely via a radio signal or a telephone call, writes the Russian daily Kommersant.
A dashcam captured the massive explosion:
While the Kremlin assumes an act of sabotage by Ukrainian forces, Ukrainian sources write about an operation by the Ukrainian secret service. However, Kiev officially denies any involvement in the deaths of Kirillov and his aides.
Zakharova: “Always worked in a deadly dangerous way”
The 54-year-old was head of the country’s NBC defense forces and was therefore responsible for protecting against the dangers of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. During Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, he repeatedly made public accusations that the US was operating secret biolabs in the neighboring country.
In addition, Kirillov, who was considered one of Russia’s top warmongers and is on Western sanctions lists, claimed that Ukraine was working on a so-called dirty bomb.
The strong spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, praised the late soldier in the highest tone: “He always worked in a way that defied death. He never hid. And he always fought with an open mind.”
