A woman is chased and raped at the train station in Lower Austria: four years in prison

Date:

The day of judgment in a trial that could not be more gruesome: a young woman was on her way from the train to her car in Gramatneusiedl (Lower Austria). A 39-year-old, also from Vienna, followed her, attacked her and raped the woman in her car. The verdicts against him and his co-suspect mother (65) were handed down on Thursday.

Surveillance video shows a man getting into the elevator at the Gramatneusiedl train station (Lower Austria) on August 1, followed by a woman he did not know. The suspect followed his later victim across the parking lot, also seen in one of the video images: “Suddenly he grabbed the woman and pushed her against her car,” reports the public prosecutor at the Korneuburg court. After strangling her and hitting her in the face, the Lower Austrian raped his victim.

Guilty verdict also for mother
Special: The co-suspect is his mother, who picked up her son at the time. She made false statements to the police. ‘I was in an exceptionally emotional situation,’ she pleads ‘not guilty’ to false evidence. Yet the 65-year-old was not legally sentenced to a six-month suspended prison sentence on Thursday.

Victim seriously traumatized
Her son, defended by Astrid Wagner (left), has to spend four years in prison. The man who is declared sane by an expert opinion accepts the verdict. “It’s terrible what happened. But I don’t remember anything,” the rapist said during the trial. He must pay the victim approximately 4,400 euros in compensation. The woman is traumatized by the incident and is still very afraid to go out or use public transport.
