A fire tragedy occurred on Wednesday at a karaoke bar in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi. A guest allegedly set the restaurant on fire after an argument, killing eleven people.
As the police announced on Thursday, two other people were also injured in the fire at the teahouse with a karaoke bar. “The police suspect that the café has burned down and (…) have arrested the perpetrator,” it said. State media published photos showing the multi-storey building largely destroyed by the flames.
After an argument, the suspect was given gasoline for arson
Before the fire, a 51-year-old guest allegedly got into an argument with other visitors and employees. He then bought gasoline at a nearby market and set fire to the first floor of the building. The suspect fled after the crime, but was later arrested. He has made a confession.
No one dared to rescue the prisoners
According to the police, a fire was reported late in the evening that trapped many people. Rescue workers were able to save seven people and eleven were found dead. According to state media, eyewitnesses said the fire was so big that no one dared try to rescue the trapped people.
There have been several deadly fires in Vietnam in recent years. Fire safety regulations are lax and the fire brigade is often poorly equipped. In 2022, 32 people died in a fire at a karaoke bar in a suburb of the economic metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City.
