Former RAF terrorist Burkhard Garweg has spoken out from the underground for the first time. In it he emphasizes that he “remains part of the revolutionary left” and expresses his solidarity with the climate movement. It is said that his lawyers have assured the authenticity of the letter.
In the letter, Garweg also expressed his solidarity with the Kurdish PKK and Antifa. He defends the violent actions of the Red Army Faction as a ‘revolutionary counter-movement’ against the ‘structural violence of the system’. According to a report in “wochentaz”, the terrorist suspect does not confess to any robbery. However, it is said that it was out of the question “for us” to kill or injure people to get money. “Any traumatization of cashiers or cash transport employees is regrettable.”
Garweg criticizes the arrest of his RAF colleague Daniela Klette in February and says she should be released. In the letter, the German also apologizes to former acquaintances, such as the residents of a caravan plot in Berlin-Friedrichshain. He is said to have lived there for years under a false identity. Accused of robberies and attacks in Hesse
Garweg has been living underground for 34 years and is internationally sought after. He is said to have belonged to the third and last generation of the RAF, to which ten murders are still attributed and which was disbanded in 1998. Together with Daniela Klette and Ernst-Volker Staub, Garweg is said to have committed a total of thirteen robberies to finance their underground life. The three are also believed to have blown up the Weiterstadt prison in Hesse.
To this day, it is unclear who committed the latest RAF killings, including Deutsche Bank boss Alfred Herrhausen and Treuhand boss Detlef Rohwedder. Garweg is not to blame for this.
