Dramatic twist in the case of a lifeless woman found by hikers in St. Stefan im Rosental (Styria) on Christmas Day. The 44-year-old was found dead in the stream bed, which was only a few centimeters deep.
There was no evidence of foul play, Styrian state police announced on Christmas Day, citing the autopsy. The incident took place on Sunday evening.
Fell over a dike after a local visit
The woman fell over a two and a half meter high dike into the stream bed. Passers-by found her lying motionless in the water. After the fire brigade rescued the woman, emergency services were only able to determine that the 44-year-old was dead.
The scene of the accident was opposite a bar where the woman from South-East Styria had apparently consumed alcohol. According to witnesses, she only left the restaurant to smoke a cigarette.
After the fall, she died of hypothermia, the medical examiner said. The relatives were informed of the woman’s death in the presence of the crisis intervention team and the body has already been released for burial.
