At least 13 people have died in a poisonous gas accident in the Jordanian port city of Aqaba. At least 250 other people were injured. A container filled with gas fell to the ground with a crane during transport and exploded.
All help came too late for at least 13 people. 185 injured were treated in hospital on Tuesday morning, Jordanian state television reported. It showed images of yellow gas spreading in an explosion and people running away. As the cause is so far unclear, the Jordanian government has ordered an investigation by the Ministry of Interior.

The Civil Protection Service says that specialists are currently working on solving the leak. Evacuation planes are said to have been sent to Aqaba and Prime Minister Bisher al-Khasawneh is also expected in the city on the Red Sea.
