Night outside – Dementia patient (85) goes missing in freezing cold

Emergency services in Vöcklabruck searched all night for a missing 85-year-old. The man is believed to be physically fit, but suffers from dementia. He was reported missing shortly after 10pm and spent the night outside in sub-zero temperatures of minus five degrees. The search will continue on Saturday morning.

Firefighters, police officers, all available sniffer dog teams from Upper Austria and drone pilots from the Red Cross searched for a missing 85-year-old in Vöcklabruck on Saturday evening. We had to hurry, because it was minus five degrees there at night. However, the search had to be stopped at 4 a.m. without results. There was no trace of the missing person, the city area and surrounding forest areas were searched.

According to police information, the man is in top physical shape and goes for walks in the woods twice a day, but suffers from dementia. He was reported missing by assisted living staff shortly after 10 p.m. The search for the senior will continue on Saturday morning.
