“Hamas stronghold” – Israel evacuates major hospital in Gaza: 240 arrests

Date:

The Israeli army says it captured 240 suspected Hamas fighters when it stormed the Kamal Adwan hospital in the Gaza Strip. The military said the hospital director was among them. He is suspected of being a Hamas “terrorist cadre”.

The Israeli army attacked the hospital on Friday morning. According to the army on Saturday evening, the operation has now ended. According to the army, a command center of the terrorist organization Hamas was active in the clinic.

240 fighters from the Islamic Hamas and affiliated Palestinian Islamic Jihad were captured in the clinic and in the surrounding area. Some militia members disguised themselves as patients, others offered armed resistance. The information could not be independently verified.

The military had emphasized that its actions spared civilians, patients and clinic staff and that it acted in accordance with international law. Medical circles in the Gaza Strip said several people were injured during the operation. A nurse who has since been released reported on the Arabic television channel Al-Jazeera that Israeli soldiers beat the prisoners with sticks. This information also could not be independently verified.

The WHO sharply criticizes the Israeli army
The World Health Organization (WHO) complained about it. According to a spokesperson, the matter was completely cleared up on Saturday evening. The last remaining fifteen patients, fifty nurses and twenty other employees were taken to the Indonesian hospital in the Gaza Strip on Friday evening. However, this does not have the necessary equipment and materials to provide patients with adequate care, the WHO explains.

The organization said it was “shocked” by the Israeli army operation at the hospital and complained that it had lost contact with the hospital director. The Israeli army is systematically dismantling the healthcare system in the Gaza Strip, which means a death sentence for tens of thousands of Palestinians, the WHO wrote on X.

Bullets from Gaza towards Israel
According to Palestinian sources, nine people were killed in an Israeli attack in the central part of the Gaza Strip. A house in the Al-Maghazi refugee district was hit, medical sources said. As a result, two projectiles were fired at Israel from the north of the Gaza Strip in the afternoon. There was therefore a rocket alert in the greater Jerusalem area and in southern Israel.

The Israeli military said the two projectiles had been intercepted. Initially there were no reports of injuries or damage. Rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip, which has been fiercely contested for more than a year, have become rare in recent months. Warning sirens sounded in the greater Jerusalem area last night – due to a Houthi missile attack from Yemen. Since the start of the Gaza war, the militia says it has repeatedly fired projectiles at Israel in solidarity with Hamas.
