Dozens of men assaulted his wife, Gisèle Pelicot, and the court sentenced them to prison terms of three to 20 years. More than fifteen suspects have appealed against the conviction.
Dominique Pelicotsentenced to 20 years in prison for drugging his wife for ten years to make it easier for other men to rape herwill not appeal the verdict handed down this month by a court in Avignon, France, contrary to what other men also accused in the same case have done, his lawyer, Béatrice Zavarro, said.
Pelicot, 72, is considered the brains of a network of abuse who sat down on the couch 51 men. The court sentenced them on December 19 to prison terms ranging from 3 and 20 yearsat the end of a process that is not yet final and against which an appeal is still possible, more than 15 defendants have already filed an appeal and the rest has until next Monday.
The victim decided that all interrogations would be public and her lawyers have already come forward after saying that Gisèle Pelicot “is not afraid” of a second trial. After reading the verdict, the woman said she did not regret coming forward for months, confident that her case could at least help other victims and change social perception of these abuses.
