The industrial accident took place on December 30, but the trade unions ELA and LAB, which reported the accident, learned of it on Thursday.
A 41-year-old worker has died at the Forest Trafic SL company in Amorebieta-Etxano (Bizkaia) after suffering an industrial accident on December 30 when part of the load of a forklift truck fell on him, as reported on Thursday by the ALS and LAB unions .
LAB said in a statement today that it became aware of this new industrial accident, which occurred when the deceased employee was carrying out inventory work in the warehouse with a forklift and part of the load he was transporting fell on him for unknown reasons.
As described by ELA, the industrial accident at the said company, which is dedicated to the production and marketing of wooden, cork and plywood panels and located in the Boroa industrial estate, occurred on December 30 around two o’clock in the afternoon.
ELA, which has announced that it will organize demonstrations in the coming days to denounce this new industrial accident, has indicated that “the lack of preventive measures is once again to blame” for this incident.
The center has denounced that “companies do not adapt prevention measures to each task, resulting in an increase in the number of accidents and occupational diseases”, and has demanded more resources from the Basque government and the Labor Inspectorate to combat industrial accidents.
According to their data, 2024 has resulted in the deaths of 20 workers in Bizkaia, 18 in Gipuzkoa and 3 in Álava.
For its part, LAB has demanded a “rigorous” investigation into the new workplace accident, as well as the acceptance of any possible responsibilities that may arise from the case.
In addition, LAB has indicated that in the same company in 2015 “another employee also died from a blow”.
The union regrets that 2024 has been a “tragic” year in terms of workplace accidents and has demanded more control measures and more labor inspectors to ensure companies comply with occupational health regulations.
