At least ten people were injured in a shooting in New York on New Year’s Day. The New York Police Department (NYPD) said about 90 people celebrated a private party that evening at an event space in the Queens borough.
Suddenly, a small group of men appeared on the street in front of the event space, the Amazura Concert Hall, and started shooting at the people in front of the building. At least 10 of them – most of them teenagers – were injured, police said.
“senseless act of violence”
The perpetrators were initially able to escape. The NYPD began the investigation. It was a “senseless act of violence,” Philip Rivera of the NYPD said at a news conference (see video above). However, he ruled out a terrorist background.
