While descending from the elevated position in the Gartner Joch area in Lermoos-Obergarten, the local slipped around 11:45 a.m. Thursday and fell five meters. His wife, who had discovered him, made CPR attempts and set the rescue chain in motion.

The resuscitation by the woman and then by the rescue helicopter team was successful. The 74-year-old was eventually flown to the Innsbruck clinic. As the police announced on Tuesday evening, the Tyrolean succumbed to his injuries.
