A motorist who lost control of his vehicle and slid onto the tracks on a snow-covered road in Bavaria on Thursday evening narrowly escaped death. Because at that moment a regional train was approaching towards Salzburg station. The collision with the car led to an evacuation of the train.
In Stephanskirchen near Rosenheim, a train driver slipped on a snowy railway crossing and lost control of his vehicle – the car slid onto the track. Fortunately, the man was able to get to safety in time before the train hit the car.
The collision caused a power outage in the train
A passenger told krone.at that the train then had to be evacuated; the accident led to a power outage (see video above). “The train consisted of two sets and several carriages, so that the passengers could be split up and travel on. The train conductors organized everything well,” said the passenger.
Both the driver and the 85 passengers who traveled on the Intercity from Munich to Salzburg were unharmed, a spokesperson for the Rosenheim police said on Friday evening.
Car recovered with the help of a crane
The car, which was lifted from the track by crane, and the locomotive of IC1291 were damaged, but the passengers were able to return to Munich on the second locomotive at the end of the train, a Deutsche Bahn spokesman said. The passengers were finally able to disembark in Rosenheim. The route between Munich and Rosenheim was closed for several hours due to the rescue work.
