Several mysterious drones, including police drones, have been spotted around a harbor south of Copenhagen. A video of the mysterious missiles is circulating on Twitter.
An eyewitness reported late Friday evening seeing up to 20 larger drones around the recreational boat marina in the small town of Køge, Danish police said. A patrol then spotted four of them, the last on Saturday evening before disappearing at high speed over the sea.
The police say they currently do not know where the drones come from, what they were doing in the area and who they belonged to. We are now trying to determine that. The Danish secret service PET, among others, was informed about the incident.
This video, shared on X, claims to show the mysterious drones:
Increased vigilance in the Baltic Sea region
In the Nordic and Baltic states bordering the Baltic Sea, there is currently increased vigilance and alertness due to possible Russian acts of sabotage. NATO recently announced that it will increase its military presence in the Baltic Sea as a deterrent.
In Scandinavia, drones have been repeatedly spotted over power stations or airports in recent years, without the background to the meaning and purpose of the incidents becoming known – and whether government actors or private drone owners were behind them. In September, several such unmanned aircraft briefly paralyzed nighttime air traffic at Sweden’s Stockholm-Arlanda airport – one of the most important airports in Scandinavia.
The port city of Køge is located on the east coast of the Danish island of Zealand and there on the Køge Bay that opens towards the Baltic Sea. There have been several suspicious cable breaks in the Baltic Sea recently and investigations are currently underway into possible sabotage. The suspect is an oil tanker that, according to the EU, belongs to the Russian shadow fleet, with which Russia wants to avoid sanctions on oil transport, among other things.
