A 69-year-old Viennese was caught on Tuesday evening at a traffic control in the border town of Bayerisch Gmain. The man, who had previously entered Bavaria via the Walserberg, could only show an invalid driver’s license. In addition, it turned out that an arrest warrant for an unpaid fine was pending against the Viennese. He collected this some time ago for driving without a driver’s license. But that’s not all: that same evening, the man was back behind the wheel of his car and the German police gave chase.
After the man paid the fine and avoided jail time, officers warned him not to drive his car. The Austrian initially cooperated and stated that he had his car brought home by a taxi driver.
Back behind the wheel
Shortly after the encounter, Reichenhall police again noticed the traffic offender’s car. At the wheel: not the promised replacement driver, but the Viennese himself. When the man saw the officers, he ran away at high speed in the direction of Großgmain.
At the border crossing, he crashed into a road sign and then left the road. Finally, the fugitive left his car and continued on foot. However, the Bavarian policemen were not stopped by the federal border and soon got hold of the rowdy one in Großgmain.
After that, Austrian colleagues took over the Viennese, which is now threatened with severe penalties on both sides of the border.
