The United States police have indicated that the perpetrator of the explosion that took place in early January in a vehicle parked in front of President-elect Donald Trump’s hotel in the city of Las Vegas used artificial intelligence to plan the destruction.
The man, identified as Matthew Livelsberger, a soldier who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, died on New Year’s Day in the car, a Tesla Cybertruck. Now police have indicated that Liverlsberger, 37, turned to ChatGPT for information about planting the explosive device.
In addition, also requested data on technical and legal issues to obtain the materials and achieve their purpose, according to information collected by US media.
“We know that artificial intelligence was going to change things for us at some point,” said Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill, who stated that this is the “first case of an individual using ChatGPT to build these types of artifacts.”
Livelsberger was an active member of the Army Special Forces and according to investigations he took his own life with a gunshot in the head just before the fireworks and gas cylinders carried in the vehicle exploded, seven people were injured by an explosion.
The soldier left a note declaring what he was going to do as “a warning to all comrades, veterans and Americans” and denouncing the power elites as a group of “weak and irresponsible people who are only trying to enrich themselves.” He had served in the military since 2006 and had a long career of deployments abroad, including two deployments to Afghanistan and missions to Ukraine, Tajikistan, Georgia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He had recently returned from an overseas assignment in Germany and was on leave when he died, US public broadcaster PBS reported.
