A hotel in Grossarltal fell victim to digital bandits on Wednesday. The unknown blackmailers blocked the company’s computer system via the Internet early in the morning. The hotel operators have not yet made the requested payment.
In the morning, an encryption program suddenly blocked access to the computer system of a hotel in Grossarl. The hotel employees were denied access to all data stored on the hotel’s server.
To decrypt the system, unknown perpetrators demanded an amount of 0.15 Bitcoins (the equivalent of about 14,000 euros), police report. The hotel had not yet fulfilled the payment request until today, Wednesday afternoon.
It is currently unknown whether the computer system is now working again or which data is being blocked. The extent of the damage caused by the crime is also still being investigated.
Investigations are also being conducted into the as yet unknown perpetrators.
