Caution is advised in several regions of Austria from Thursday afternoon. Because the approaching cold front is hard and brings stormy wind gusts of up to 100 km/h. In four states there is even a red warning level!
Strong foehn will be noticeable all day in the southeast of the country. It can be windy, especially in North Tyrol and Vorarlberg.
Be careful in the East
According to the emergency weather center, stormy westerly winds will strengthen in the west and north in the evening, which will then spread over the entire Danube region during the night – also affecting the federal capital Vienna.
There is a warning of “heavy showers” and in isolated locations even “hurricane-like wind gusts”. The weather service has therefore issued a red warning level for four states: Lower Austria, Styria, Burgenland and Vienna.
Take precautions to prevent damage
Loose objects should therefore be secured in advance, especially on terraces, balconies and in gardens, and further precautions should be taken to prevent possible damage. As always, caution is required outdoors, as there is danger from falling branches or loose roof parts.
