A strange and not without danger incident took place at Brussels Airport on Wednesday, which fortunately ended happily. The nose landing gear of a Boeing 737-700 operated by holiday airline TUI fly collapsed and the nose of the aircraft hit the ground.
As seen in photos posted to X (formerly Twitter), the plane sits on the tarmac in front of Gate 157R. The front landing gear is no longer visible. Video footage (see above) shows the 16-year-old Boeing tilting forward and the nose of the plane hitting the tarmac.
The exact course of the incident remains unclear. According to the flight tracking service AirNav Radar, the Boeing 737-700, coming from Malaga, Spain, landed in Brussels at 12.30 pm on Wednesday. At the time of the incident, the aircraft was no longer in use and there were therefore no passengers or crew members on board, TUI fly said.
The airline launched an internal investigation
The airline said it had launched an internal investigation to determine the cause of the incident and reiterated its “commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards”.
“We will analyze the situation in detail in consultation with the authorities, but we can already confirm that the incident was not due to a technical problem,” the company said.
TUIfly flies from five German bases mainly to tourist destinations in Greece, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Egypt, the Canary Islands and Cape Verde. The airline also offers occasional flights to Italy, Tunisia or Turkey.
