Fire alarm Friday evening in the Wilten district of Innsbruck: A fire broke out in the basement of a demolished house for currently unknown reasons. Men who had been in the vacant building for weeks were brought to safety by the emergency services. One person had to be admitted to the clinic.
The emergency services were alerted in the middle of the night. A fire suddenly broke out in the basement of the normally empty demolished house in Wilten. Why is currently completely unclear.
Police: “No homeless people”
It is certain that four men between the ages of 20 and 36 had been regularly staying in this building for several weeks. However, in response to a question from ‘Krone’, the police stated that they were not homeless because all four people had a valid home address.
Around 2 a.m., the quartet found themselves on the first floor of the house. “While one person was sleeping in a room, the three awake men heard crackling noises. “They went into the basement, where flames were already shooting towards them,” investigators said.
Firefighters brought the men to safety
The men tried to extinguish the fire. However, without success. The professional fire brigade of Innsbruck and the volunteer fire brigade of Wilten brought the four people to safety and then started the extinguishing attack. The situation was then quickly under control.
According to the police, a man with suspected smoke poisoning had to be taken to the clinic in Innsbruck. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
