By glancing at his mobile phone, a 31-year-old from Frankenburg overlooked an intersection in St. Johann/Walde. He ‘plowed’ through a private garden in his van. But there may also have been another reason for the accident: the man had a blood alcohol level of 2 per mille.
The 31-year-old from Frankenburgh was driving his van on January 10, 2025 around 4 p.m. in the municipality of St. Johann am Walde on the Warleitner Landesstraße L1063 coming from Schneibenschlag towards St. Johann am Walde. According to his own statements, the 31-year-old was looking at his mobile phone while driving and therefore missed an intersection shortly before the area around St. Johann am Walde.
Garden gate and granite column went flying
So he drove straight through the T-junction and at full speed through an adjacent garden. He drove over five granite pillars and the metal fence elements of the garden fence. Some elements of the garden fence were thrown 50 meters away by the force of the impact.
The breath test was positive
The van came to a stop about 100 meters away in a meadow. An alcohol test conducted showed a blood alcohol level of 2.02 and his driver’s license was temporarily confiscated. The material damage caused is in the five-figure euro range.
