The series of serious tobogganing accidents in Tyrol never ends: There were several more incidents in the state on Saturday. For example in Kitzbühel, where a 37-year-old local woman and her son (4) got off the train and fell into the adjacent forest. Both had to be taken away by emergency helicopters. The woman was even unconscious for a moment.
The terrible winter sports accident took place in Kitzbühel around 4 p.m. The 37-year-old was tobogganing through the valley with her child when she lost control in a slight left bend below the Bichlalm.
Crashed in a forest
The mother-son team then came over the edge of the track. “Both fell over the slope into the adjacent forest. The boy, who was on the sled in front of his mother at the time of the accident, was injured about two meters outside the track, and the 37-year-old was injured about five meters away. “She was also unconscious for a short time,” police said.
Family members immediately raised the alarm
Family members were able to observe the accident, they immediately called 911 and provided first aid. Police said both the mother and her son were wearing helmets. After initial treatment with rope, they were rescued by the crews of the emergency medical helicopters “C4” and “Heli 1”.
“The 37-year-old was flown to the St. Johann district hospital with suspected back and chest injuries, and her son was flown to the hospital in Kufstein with head injuries,” the investigators continued. The slope and mountain rescue service and the Alpine police were also present.
Further accidents required emergency services
A serious tobogganing accident also occurred in the Zillertal on Saturday afternoon. A 27-year-old local woman left the track in Hainzenberg due to a driving error and ended up 15 meters lower in the adjacent forest. She suffered injuries to her hand and back and was flown by emergency helicopter to Schwaz district hospital.
And in Söll in the Kufstein district, an unknown woman hit a German sled (24). The young woman then complained of pain in the pelvic area. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.
