At the beginning of January, a tragic hunting accident occurred in Cloppenburg (Germany). Master chef Jens H. (48) was hunting for wild boars together with Stefan G. (50) when the fatal shot occurred. The Public Prosecution Service is now investigating Stefan G. for manslaughter by negligence.
At the beginning of this year, the two friends had arranged to meet in a forest near Ruchow in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). But what started as a completely innocent encounter ended with a fatal shot in the neck around 8 p.m.
All help came too late
According to BILD information, the two fighters were equipped with high-tech rifles with integrated night vision goggles. Stefan G. is said to have pointed his gun at his friend to adjust it. The fatal shot is said to have been fired. All help came too late for him. All hunters were interrogated by police that same night.
The researchers currently believe that the respective hunters’ perches were only about 200 meters apart. However, the men would not have seen each other due to the darkness and a slight bend.
Autopsy completed
The hunter’s autopsy was completed last Thursday. So it is clear that the shot in the neck was the cause of death. The Public Prosecution Service is currently assuming homicide by negligence. The motive has not yet been determined. The investigation continues.
The hunting community is also mourning the late father of the family. A spokesperson for the hunting association: “The highest priority is that we should never point the weapon at anyone. Never try the optic on or on a person! Never!”
