During an all-time cold spell, a number of Londoners dared to go outside in their underwear. During the annual ‘No Pants Tube Ride’, people ride the metro through the city without any worries once a year.
Some participants surprised everyone with special underwear in bright colors or humorous prints. Organizers asked people to wear inconspicuous underwear – as if they had simply forgotten their trousers.
Icy temperatures
The participants met in London’s China Town in freezing temperatures, although still wearing trousers, before flocking to surrounding tube stations and dropping their clothes.
In London and many other parts of Britain, a white layer of frost covered houses, streets and vehicles overnight. The lowest temperature in fifteen years was measured in Scotland this weekend at minus 18.9 degrees.
The participants of the ‘No Pants Tube Day’ were not deterred by the icy temperatures. The trend actually started in New York as the ‘No Pants Subway Ride’. While New Yorkers have now said goodbye to it, the campaign in London is still ongoing.
