The shortcomings will be demonstrated to members at a specially planned open day in the new doghouse of the Mentlberg animal shelter in Innsbruck this Saturday (January 18). The civil case against Strabag will continue in February and the construction company is defending itself.
It should have been the showpiece project par excellence – instead the Animal Welfare Association for Tyrol found extensive and annoying shortcomings in the 2.5 million euro construction. As a preliminary highlight, representatives and lawyers from Strabag and the club met in November during a civil trial in Innsbruck.
13 defects including sub-points
As reported, the construction company still wants 385,000 euros from animal protection. He lists 13 defects including sub-points and does not want to pay. One of the bottlenecks is screed floors without a slope in the dog enclosures, which prevent water from draining into the storm drains.
Strabag states, among other things, that due to the change in the club’s management, there was a lack of permanent contact persons.
“Expensive, but the house does not meet the requirements”
In the members magazine “Tierschutz Kurier”, chairman Veronika Rom-Erhard announced that they would now take action to correct the most serious shortcomings. This Saturday (2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) the approximately 20,000 members are invited to come and take a look on site.
“A photo of a doghouse that was expensive, but did not offer the conditions to house dogs in a species-specific and, above all, animal welfare-friendly way,” said the chairman.
When the process continues in February, the exact specifications that the previous management of the association gave to the construction company will first be examined.
