It wasn’t as bad as Tuesday night, but there were storms again in Upper Austria on Wednesday night. It still flashes and thunders. The professional fire brigade in Linz is emptying an underground parking garage and lightning struck the Mühlviertel.
The storm cells moved through the country from south to north, especially the districts of Wels-Land, Grieskirchen and Eferding were affected. But dozens of fire brigades were also deployed in Linz-Land, the Urfahr area, Freistadt, Perg and Schärding. In total there were about 100 warnings and about 900 firefighters responded. Sometimes it rained up to 30 liters per square meter per hour. Rain is expected to continue through Wednesday, so further flooding is to be feared. In Leondig, Hinterstoder, Unterweitersdorf and Roßleithen a high water alarm went off in the morning.
According to the state warning center of the fire service, cellars in particular had to be pumped out and paved roads cleared. On All Saints’ Day, lightning struck a hay barn, but luckily no fire started. In addition, the owners quickly raised the alarm and the Floriani disciples examined the building for embers. Lightning also struck buildings in Hartkirchen and Rohrbach-Berg. Nothing is known about injuries. And in Kallham, a lightning strike set a tree on fire.
In Linz, the underground parking garage under the main square was flooded and the water was up to 70 centimeters deep. Several cars were heavily damaged. A wall also collapsed, no one was injured.
