Like the EAV song: bank robbers waited patiently in line

Date:

An unusual bank robbery was heard at the Linz Regional Court on Friday. A 20-year-old from Linz threatened a bank employee with a knife and stole 5,000 euros – but only when it was his turn. He fully confessed in court and was sentenced to partial imprisonment.

The student is twenty years old and will be taken from prison to the Linz Regional Court on Friday. He had an income, a regulated environment and good prospects. Nevertheless, on November 20 of the previous year he set out to rob the Volksbank on Linzer Zeppelinstrasse with a knife in his pocket and an FFP2 mask on his face.

Parallels with Austropop classics
The 20-year-old from Linz waited patiently in front of the wrong counter before queuing again to hand out the money – almost like in EAV’s Austropop classic. Unlike in the song, the apprentice wanted to raise money first and, unlike the ‘evil money army’, ultimately could not be persuaded to make a deposit. When the bank employee asked for his debit card, he instead saw the 20 to 30 centimeter long kitchen knife sharpened on both sides.

The motive remained unclear
Just three days later, the handcuffs clicked on the young man with the almost childlike face. In court, he contritely confessed everything and asked for probation and drug treatment. It remained unclear whether his addiction and resulting debts were the motive for the attack.

It is also not clear where the loot went: the suspect claimed that he had not taken the 50 euro banderole, worth 5,000 euros, for fear of a hidden tracking device. Instead, he said he hid them in a bush, where the money apparently disappeared without a trace. The story was questioned several times, but this had no influence on the verdict.

Imprisonment
After only fifteen minutes, the three lay judges and the chairman agreed: 24 months in prison, eight of which were unconditional, minus the two that the twenty-year-old had already served. In addition, he must repay the loot, for which he has been granted an installment payment.
