The Basque Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Development, Leandro Azkue, held a meeting this Monday at the headquarters of the Directorate General of Fisheries in Madrid with the Secretary General of Fisheries, Isabel Artime, in which the three Basque shipowners, ships and the Spanish shipowners’ association Cepesca.
As the Basque Ministry reports in a note, the central government has committed to manage the possibility of Basque tuna vessels operating in the waters of Panama and Costa Rica.
In addition, the department is studying whether each ship can receive de minimis support of up to 40,000 euros for the downtime it experiences.
The ships affected by the strike in Senegal are owned by Basque shipowners, including three Spanish and one with a French flag.
