Tragedy in Western Styria: On Monday morning, the body of a local cleaner was discovered in the high school in Stainz, having apparently been there since Friday afternoon. The crisis intervention team is on duty and there is great sadness in the city.
Monday started with a shock at the high school in Stainz, western Styria: around 5 a.m., a cleaning lady who had just started her early shift came across a female corpse lying in a winding part of the building.
Worked as a cleaner at school
It turned out to be a colleague who had apparently collapsed while at work and died on the spot. The local woman, who was employed by the council as a cleaner, was last seen on Friday afternoon. Particularly tragic: she must have lain dead at school for days.
Daughter believed that mother wanted to be alone
The mayor of Stainz, Karl Bohnstingl, was alerted on Monday morning: “We suspect that the woman died on Friday afternoon and unfortunately has not been found because the school is closed at the weekend. Her daughter tried to reach her on Saturday and Sunday but thought she wanted to be left alone.”
On Monday morning, the management informed the parents of the students about the death and did not even open the school: “We ask you to leave your child at home today.” In the meantime, Karl Bohnstingl and a crisis intervention team took care of six children who were already there: “We then lit a candle together.”
There is great sadness in the city: the New Year’s reception on Monday evening is cancelled. “Nobody wants to celebrate,” the mayor says sadly to the “Krone”.
