Traffic disruption on the western highway: Due to a burning truck trailer, the direction of travel to Vienna near Ebelsberg in Upper Austria was temporarily completely closed on Wednesday morning. Even in the afternoon the traffic jam was still ten kilometers long. The trigger may have been a charge that otherwise brings a lot of joy: fruit gums.
On Wednesday around 8:45 a.m., the trailer of a truck caught fire on the A1 near Ebelsberger Berg. The driver was able to disconnect the tractor in time, so that the fire did not spread to the driver’s cabin. But that could not prevent a real traffic collapse.
The western highway towards Vienna was completely closed between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. “One lane has been free again since 9:30 am,” ÖAMTC spokesperson Harald Lasser told “Krone”.
Ten kilometers of traffic jam
The result was a traffic jam that stretched for miles. At noon the length of the gap was still about ten kilometers. “If you can, you should avoid the route now,” Lasser said during the obstruction. “Otherwise you have to take into account delays of at least an hour.”
There were also repeated minor traffic delays in the opposite direction due to spectators.
Difficult work
The clean-up work was difficult: the truck was apparently loaded with fruit gum, some of which melted on the road. The sweet cargo had to be reloaded and the truck was towed away. The work was still in full swing at noon.
