Countless farm owners have nothing left: “Everything was washed away!” Many animals could not be saved and at the Pilsachhof in Arriach (Carinthia) a dream of a lifetime was destroyed within minutes.
“We could only save ourselves in the attic,” says Julia Zlattinger van Treffen. The driving teacher managed to flee at the last minute with her 15-year-old daughter and her mastiff from the rubble that penetrated to the first floor on Wednesday. “We didn’t know what our horses looked like in the stable. It’s just awful. Everything is gone – documents, clothes, furniture, memories.”
The only glimmer of hope: The farm’s six horses managed to escape to a small hill. Now it’s time to clean up. The willingness to help is great, the shock will remain. Donation accounts have been created. “Krone” and Caritas also help.
Almost all farm animals have died
A heartbreaking animal tragedy has taken place in Arriach. Almost all the beloved animals of the Pilsachhof relaxation paradise had to die in the mud masses. Rita and Rupert Gollner’s dream was destroyed within minutes by the devastating debris flow. “They were only able to save the horses Picasso and Felix,” said daughter Theresa, shocked. “Dad has endangered his life countless times. It didn’t help.”
A pony, two donkeys, two other horses, chickens, cats and the popular movie sheep Heidi, also reported by the “Carinthian Crown”, could not be saved.
