The alleged perpetrator of the fatal knife attack in Aschaffenburg should have been jailed for more than a month at the end of December 2024. This was announced on Friday by the Schweinfurt public prosecutor.
The man was sentenced to fines in two different courts. He did not pay the first, therefore he had to compete on December 23. But that didn’t happen. The prosecutor said that a court should form such a general punishment under certain conditions.
Only then can it be clear how long the convicted person will actually have to be in custody or how much money he will have to pay. In the meantime, the second judgment with a fine has also become final, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor said. That is why the Schweinfurt court had to decide on a general fine for the first time. This would have required delivery and translations.
Man in psychiatry
So the 28-year-old suspect was released until January 22. As reported, he must be responsible for the fatal knife attack in Aschaffenburg in Bavaria (see video above). He is charged with double murder, double attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm. The Afghan is said to be mentally ill and was therefore admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
The right populist alternative for Germany (AFD) wants to commemorate the victims of the knife attack in Aschaffenburg on Friday afternoon. The city’s central funeral service will take place on Sunday. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) and Bavaria Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU), among others, want to participate.
Special conference planned
A special conference of the Minister of the Interior is planned for Monday. This should include dealing with mentally ill criminals. The Christian Democrats want to submit applications for migration policy next week.
