In Poland, a paramedic was attacked by a drunk patient he was trying to help. Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna announced this on Sunday. The 64-year-old died in hospital from his serious injuries.
Leszczyna expressed her condolences to the relatives of the deceased and promised support. The attack was carried out on Saturday evening in Siedlce, almost 90 kilometers east of Warsaw. A man called an ambulance complaining of breathing problems. When emergency services arrived, the patient (57) grabbed two knives and stabbed one of the two ambulance personnel.
The colleague of the attacked paramedic was able to overpower the attacker, but the victim died a short time later in hospital. According to the police, the suspect’s blood alcohol level was more than two per mille.
