There was recently a bed bug alarm in the police quarter in the Tyrolean Axamer Lizum during the G7 summit in neighboring Bavaria – reported the “Krone”. A staff representative is now calling for a more professional approach by the Tyrolean National Police Service.
Bed bugs made life difficult for some 80 task force police officers (EE officers) who were stationed in Axamer Lizum because of the G7 summit. The pests were one of the reasons the police were sent home with a note where they found some advice on how to get rid of the bed bugs.
“Measures are not enough”
This approach is clearly not enough for Florian Berger, parliamentary leader of the AUF staff representation Tyrol to the police: “To hand out a DIN A4 note stating that the police officers involved keep their equipment in the freezer, that they shower enough or that they leave company cars in the sun for a day is not enough. Let’s face it, I really don’t need a bedbug-infested uniform in my freezer.”
Call for professional action
You can’t treat this issue so succinctly “and shift the responsibility to the officers”, Berger says, “the state police as the responsible authority must take professional measures, such as calling in an exterminator or having service vehicles professionally disinfected. The accommodation provider should do something to get rid of the bed bugs anyway. “But we can’t impose anything on him. We are mainly concerned about our officers and the things they had with them,” said the staff representative.
Civil servants back to work without everything being clear”
He asked what those responsible plan to do now. “But until today I have not heard anything. All I know is that the officers involved were already back on duty in their respective regular offices on Wednesday – and without the Tyrolean state police making it clear,” Berger said.
