In protest against the joint coordination of the Union and AFD in the German Bundestag, tens of thousands of people throughout Germany have taken to the streets again.
The reason for the demonstrations is that the CDU and CSU had enforced an application to sharpen the migration policy in the Bundestag on Wednesday with the help of the AfD. For the first time, the AfD bought a majority in the plenum – but the requested application has no binding effect. A draft law introduced by the trade union to limit migration had failed on Friday.
According to the police, there were around 160,000 protesters in Berlin alone and the organizers declared 250,000 participants. About 15,000 came together in Saarbrücken and between 13,000 and 14,000 in Kiel. People also took to the streets in Regensburg, Ulm, Potsdam, Cologne and other cities.
