The Greek island of Santorini has been re -shaken by earthquakes. The most violent had a thickness of 4.9. The island has been shaken since Sunday by more than 200 earthquakes and more and more people leave the area for fear (see video above).
By Tuesday morning, 4640 people opened on board four ferries to the mainland, and the airline Aegean aircraft companies transported 1294 people on Monday. Five of the flights were special flights. Another eight flights were then planned for Tuesday. In addition, two ferries must leave the island. Human snakes formed for the ticket offices. Because the winter is in Santorini, there are almost only locals on the spot.
On Tuesday morning, some of them woke up by a renewed Earth Kick shortly before five (3 hours of CET). The earthquake of force 4.9 had its center about 30 kilometers from Santorini in the Aegean Sea, said the Geodynamic Observation Institute in Athens. About three hours later there was a covenant union in the same region, followed by further lighter earthquakes.
Further shocks will be expected in the coming days. “It is the first time that something like that happens,” said Athanassios Ganas of the Geodynamic Observation Institute on television. There were more than 40 earthquakes of strength 4.0 or higher within 72 hours. “We have never experienced anything like that.”
Santorini is located on a sleeping volcano that last broke out in 1950. However, the current development must “not be related to volcanic activity”.
