After two years of closure as a result of the gigantic aquarium in the Lobby Burst in 2022, the Radisson Collection Hotel Berlin reopened after extensive renovation and repair work. Instead of the exploded aquarium, the green lobby now adorns a living drawer, an almost 16 meter high sculpture overgrown with plants.
Earlier, an aquarium was in the same place of the 985 square meter lobby, of which the external acrylic glossineer was torn in December 2022. Nearly a million salted water flowed from the aquarium, lobby and lifts were flooded, including adjacent roads. Happiness in accident: hundreds of fish could be saved, only two employees of the hotel were somewhat injured. But the hotel had to be renovated, more than two years the repair and conversion measures lasted more than two years.
2000 plants in a vertical garden
The new most important attraction of the Vijfstenhotel in the Domaquarée in the Berlin hotel at Karl-Liebknecht-Straße will soon impress visitors and guests. Exactly 1958 plants grow in the vertical garden, which is exactly 15.5 meters high and whose crown has a diameter of 19.5 meters.
“The image will develop over time because the factories grow,” says Kai Lütge-Sudhoff, member of the Union Investment Project team. In order not to have the factories not only developed, but also in width, a total of 48 LED -shin lights are attached in the corners of the lobby, which donate lightly and at the same time offer changing moods, according to the investment of the Union (owner of the object) .
Drop irrigation system keeps plants fit
22 different plant species were selected for the object – not exotic, but mostly types that can be found in every Putstokbloemwinkel, including Golden Cup -Farens and Philodendron Xanadu. They are supplied with water and fertilizer via a drop irrigation system.
