The business of friendship and love is thriving on the internet. Criminals know that too – and take advantage of it. A 26-year-old woman from the Mühlviertel is said to have been part of such a gang and is therefore due to appear in court in Linz soon.
The 26-year-old is said to have participated in love scams as part of a gang. The gang posted fake profiles on the internet, fake love or emergency. In both cases money was requested from the victims. Amounts between 1000 and 18,000 euros are said to have flown. In total, 356,000 euros in damage would have been incurred.
The Upper Austrian came into play with the transfers. She is said to have provided four bills to which EUR 105,800 has flown from ten female victims. She would have either transferred the money to gang members or repaired it.
On July 12, the woman has to answer to a judge in Linz. She is charged with serious commercial fraud, money laundering and criminal organisation. So far, she has not responded to the allegations.
