While researchers in front of Tenerife, the first video recordings of a deep-sea fishermen arriving at the surface of the sea, students Salzburg also have a visually striking travel man of Dieren discovered it in the air.
The animal kingdom is known for some visual abnormalities. In recent days, this has again shown the observation of a deep sea watchers on the surface of the sea of the island of Tenerife.
Nowadays they also treat an optically striking animal in Salzburg: the type of moth Eudocima Aurantia. Students from the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg were surprising in this special way: the nocturnal, fruit -sucking moth uses specialized nanostructures on their wings to imitate the three -dimensional appearance of a sheet -although their wings are actually flat.
“The moth ensures targeted light reflections that come from thin party holiday on their wings,” explains the research team around Professor Bodo Wilts. “This technique ensures that certain parts of the wing reflect lighter, just like the curved areas of a real leaf.”
The research team – which, in addition to the students of Salzburg, also includes other international scientists, now wants to bring the new findings in the development of new camouflage materials.
