A Matura project could save lives in the future: three students from HTL Braunau (Upper Austria) developed a system that is supposed to drive fire brigades in large buildings to the fire stove faster. The maturants have programmed and designed all steps themselves.
“The idea came from my own experience as a firefighter. Especially in confusing buildings it can be extremely difficult to find the fastest way to the fire stove, ”says Konstantin Bandat. That is why the 18-year-old, together with two classmates at HTL Braunau, developed a technology as a matura project that is intended to lead emergency services to the place of false loss faster and in the extreme case can also save lives.
Digitize paper plans
This is how the invention baptized by the “Helios” students works: there are fire protection plans on paper from larger buildings such as schools or hospitals. The maturants have programmed software to digitize these plans, which are then played in an app that has also been developed. This then defines the fastest way to the site. And this best possible path is finally sent to a navigation system designed by the students.
Tests start soon
“The firefighters can wear the navigation device on their equipment, which is easy to attach with Velcroers,” explains Bandat. The Braunau Fire Department system will be used as a test in the coming weeks.
