Francesco Rivella and Michele Ferrero developed a spread of Supercrema in the early 1970s in the North -Italian city of Alba in Piemont, who would conquer the world from 1964 and later called Nutella. Rivella died at the age of 97 to 14 – exactly ten years after the death of Ferrero.
The food chemist Rivella was previously used as a food chemist at the Ferrero group, was considered Ferrero’s right hand. Together they developed the composition of Nutella, which developed into a world success.
In the north of Italy it had already started in the 19th century to use ground hazelnuts in the production of confectionery instead of cocoa powder. This resulted in brown nougat crème, for example in the form of Gianduiotti chocolates. The RAW Massa was then also available in the store as a spread. Together with Ferrero, Rivella De Mass finally filled in glasses.
Supercrema became Nutella
In the first few years, the Nutgat Cream was still called Supercrema. The breakthrough came up with the forced resistance in the sixties, because since then nothing has been sold with the rating in Italy. Note -stands for note, -ella is one of the classic Italian endings.
Rivella kept Ferrero -Loyalty to life
As a technical director, Rivella was also involved in the development of other products such as “Mon Chéri” or “Children’s Chocolate”. He has never worked for another company all his life. Rivella retired in 1993. He leaves a daughter and three sons behind.
- Nutella has long since become a synonym for all kinds of nuts. In the Italian delicatessen, but even in many supermarkets from other countries, the different varieties dozen ways are available: the more nuts (Nutella: 13 percent, others also 51 percent) and the less palm oil, the more expensive.
- After years, with a lot of criticism, Ferrero claims to use only palm oil from a certified sustainable production. However, environmental activists continue to accuse.
- According to estimates, about a quarter of global hazelnut production is used for Nutella. The group has always been quiet about the exact composition.
- Nutritionists indicate that a glass of 400 grams contains 72 pieces of cubes.
