“Not only Camorra” protest in Naples against filming TV series

Date:

In Naples, residents protested against filming for the well-known TV series “Gomorrha”. The production transfers a negative picture of the city, it said. “We are not only Camorra and violence,” said some demonstrators.

There was mainly criticism of the presentation of the Quartieri Spagnoli, the oldest quarter of Naples with its typical narrow streets. This was demonstrated as a place of crime and violence, residents said. That damaged Naples’ call. There are also stories about solidarity and social cohesion that would earn.

The demonstrators drove a television team that wanted to photograph some scenes in the old town. The “Gomorrha” series is based on the author Roberto Saviano with the same name and circles around the Savastano Camorra family, which checks illegal stores in Naples.

Saviano had often defended his work in the past and said his goal was to discover injustice and criminal dynamics. He wanted to raise awareness of the public for the problems. “We don’t explain Naples in the world, we explain the world with the help of Naples’s example,” said the author and journalist.

Saviano has been the opponent of the Mafia for years and lives under police protection due to several threats for murder.
